“Floods are act of God. But flood losses are largely act of man” Gilbert F White

Water water everywhere

The above image reminded me of our good friend Jez and his Water water everywhere posts.

The above image is that of one of the low lying areas and whenever there are heavy rains, the roads get flooded.

And what else do we as kids do when there is so much water all around?

You can see these two kids enjoying a makeshift boat ride.

The boat was made up of all the crap from the polystyrene boxes.

Almost looked like the boat is ready for the ride!

What a joyous ride!

Is not flooding a man-made?(as per the experts on climate change)

“When we talk of flood control, we usually think of dams and deeper river channels, to impound the waters or hurry their run-off. Yet neither is the ultimate solution, simply because floods are caused by the flow of water downhill. If the hills are wooded, that flow is checked. If there is a swamp at the foot of the hills, the swamp sponges up most of the excess water, restores some of it to the underground water supply and feeds the remainder slowly into the streams. Strip the hills, drain the boglands, and you create flood conditions inevitably. Yet that is what we have been doing for years” Hal Borland

Are we concerned at all?

“I believe water will be the defining crisis of our century — from droughts, storms, and floods to degrading water quality. We’ll see major conflicts over water and the proliferation of water refugees. We inhabit a water planet, and unless we protect, manage, and restore that resource, the future will be a very different place from the one we imagine today” Alexandra Cousteau

Hepatitis can’t wait!

“Is life worth living? It all depends on the liver” William James

Your Liver commands respect

“Every chemical that makes it into your bloodstream – be it through your lungs, stomach, or skin – meets up with your liver at some point. Since your liver is your body’s best defence when it comes to filtering out all those toxins, you need to treat it well”  Suzanne Somers

World Hepatitis Day is celebrated annually on the 28th of July

This year the theme for World Hepatitis Day is ‘HEPATITIS CAN’T WAIT’.

It’s said that a person is dying every 30 seconds from a hepatitis-related illness.

  • People living with viral hepatitis unaware can’t wait for testing
  • People living with hepatitis can’t wait for life-saving treatments
  • Expectant mothers can’t wait for hepatitis screening and treatment
  • Newborn babies can’t wait for birth dose vaccination
  • People affected by hepatitis can’t wait to end stigma and discrimination
  • Community organisations can’t wait for greater investment
  • Decision-makers can’t wait and must act now to make hepatitis elimination a reality through political will and funding.

What is hepatitis?

Hepatitis is the inflammation of the liver caused by viruses.

The viruses that cause the inflammation are named after letters, A, B, C, D, and E.

Hepatitis B and C can cause liver cancer.

The majority of people are unaware that they are infected with the virus.

Exact Causes

Hepatitis A & E are caused due to eating contaminated food or drinking contaminated water.

Hepatitis B is caused by contact with the blood or body fluids of another infected person.

Hepatitis C and D are caused due to blood to blood contact.

Have you ever visited a patient suffering from liver damage?

I bet you start giving importance to your lifestyle!

And you are sure to take precautions to protect your liver.

How to protect the liver? ( General precaution)

  1. Maintain a healthy diet. You may ask what is a healthy diet? My friend, you can check with your dietician or internet’. The idea is to have a balanced diet.
  2. During a blood transfusion, ensure a safe process and prevent getting infected with Hepatitis B or C viruses
  3. Hepatitis B & C can also be transmitted sexually. Safe sex is advised.
  4. Don’t share toothbrushes, razors, needles or other personal care items
  5. If you are planning tattooing or piercing get vaccinated for hepatitis B.
  6. Regarding Hepatitis A infection, people get it by having close contact with a person who is infected from food or drinks, prepared by someone infected. It can also come by eating food, harvested from sewage-contaminated water.
  7. Avoid toxins. Toxins I mean insecticides, chemicals and aerosol products. Wear a mask and limit direct contact with these chemicals by wearing gloves.
  8. The majority of us love Alcohol and enjoy consuming the same. And in many places, it forms part of the culture and tradition. My advice is to stay away from alcohol. If you can’t, then consume alcohol responsibly.
  9. Avoid smoking.
  10. Avoid substances like cocaine, marijuana, hashish, heroin, inhalations, psychotherapeutic ( When used non medically).

Specific preventive measures for Hepatitis

Vaccines are available for Hepatitis A and B.

For Hepatitis C, D and E…there is no vaccination available.

So one must be careful and follow the measures to protect the liver as mentioned above.

Take home message

Love your liver and live longer.

Thank you.

Water water everywhere!

“I believe that water is the closest thing to a god we have here on Earth. We are in awe of its power and majestic beauty. We are drawn to it as if it’s a magical, healing force. We gestate in water, are made of water, and need to drink water to live. We are living in water.” Alex Z. Moores

Thought of the day

How to create a better life?

These days of Covid life, you are tired and drained of all your reserves and strength.

You don’t even wish to think of what your future holds.

You started thinking that you are dying everyday!.

Do you wish to know about creating a better life?

It’s a simple formula.

That is the reason I am sure you never follow it.

My friend, it’s worth the try.

You will never look back.

From this minute onwards start living in harmony with the Universe.

When you live in harmony with the Universe, you stop controlling your life and start having faith in the Universe, which in turn start favoring your wishes.

So my friend, start aligning with Nature’s flow.

Don’t resist or fight with your life or the Universe.

Have patience and be prepared to experience pleasant surprises.

You make a better life for yourself and others.

How to be in harmony with the Universe?

To achieve this, first, you must be in harmony with yourself.

“To receive vibrant health, wealth and love you must be in harmony with the Universe. You must be kind to nature, people, animals, birds and the environment”  Chris Kanyani

In case you are not in harmony with Universe, can Universe be kinder?

My friend, do you want to play mischief here?

Read this quote

“The Universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition”  Carl Sagan

Final thoughts

“The supreme good is like water, which nourishes all things without trying to. It is content with the low places that people disdain. Thus it is like the Tao. Indwelling, live close to the ground. In thinking, keep to the simple. In conflict, be fair and generous. In governing, don’t try to control. At work, do what you enjoy. In family life, be completely present. When you are content to be simply yourself and don’t compare or compete, everybody will respect you”  Laozi

The concept is similar to the philosophy of Wu-Wei.

Wu-wei means effortless action (like water flowing) or action-less action. Simply it means being at peace at the same time engaging in difficult tasks with skill. It’s nothing but mindfulness.

Please share your thoughts.

 Thank you.

“Be the fountain, not the drain.” Jonathan van Meter

What does the above quote tell us?

Simply it means Be a giver and Don’t be selfish, don’t go on demanding more and more and more and more.

God has already given you what you deserved.

It also reminds you of the law of Karma, “As you sow, so shall you reap” telling us….what you give, follows the route of the circle and comes back to you.

What is the law of Karma to do with the fountain ?

The fountain spreads joy, freshness, and peace. The more you give these to the people, the more you get it back.

What does Fountain symbolize?

As I said earlier, Fountain is a symbol of joy and peace. And the water spring is life-giving.

People make wishes in fountains, by tossing the coins.

Just by resting near the fountains, one gains calmness and the souls are rejuvenated.

What about drains?

Come on my friend. Nobody wishes to be a drain. Drains spread stench and truly drains your energy.

Take home message

All that I am stressing is to pay attention to your ‘Attitude’.

To make it more simple, concentrate on giving all your energies to serve rather than either being neutral or greedy.

“May your life be a fountain of love & kindness to fill the world with joy” Debasish Mridha MD

Walk in the desert, You will realize the cost of Water

world water day

Pure water is world’s first & foremost medicine        Slovakian proverb

To day is Water World Day.Do you remember ?

I know you started wondering……is this really that important in times of Corona Crisis ?  My friend read this.

No water=No life

Even in these days of corona pandemic…….. the first precaution every body has to perform religiously is to wash your hands with water and soap at every opportunity.

It’s high time we give importance to conservancy of water.

Save every drop of water.

“We forget that the water cycle and the life cycle are one” Jacques Yves Cousteau

Water a liquid play a very crucial role in Human Daily life. No living being on earth live without water, A single drop makes magics or saves life of some one at some where. So please Save water as much as you can. Remember “Saving water is saving lifeThe wars of the twenty-first century will be fought over water.   Ismail Serageldin

Are you scared or surprised ?

Yes.It is a fact and soon humans kill each other for that water yes…for that single drop of water.

Water is one of the most basic of all needs – we cannot live for more than a few days without it. And yet, most people take water for granted. We waste water needlessly and don’t realize that clean water is a very limited resource. More than 1 billion people around the world have no access to safe, clean drinking water, and over 2.5 billion do not have adequate sanitation service. Over 2 million people die each year because of unsafe water – and most of them are children! Robert Alan Aurthur

World Water Day is an annual UN observance day (22 March) that highlights the importance of fresh water. The day is used to advocate for the Sustainable management of freshwater resource. This years’s theme is water & climate change.

Any lessons ?

Don’t let the water run in the sink, our life’s on the brink !

Wake up ! Stop wasting water ! Else our kids might be forced to drink polluted water,if at all it’s available  !!

Thank you .Namaste 🙏🙏🙏

Don’t be a bum,wash off the scum

Hand washing has become a must in these days of Corona Virus scare.Sadly many people are not aware of the exact method.

Any idea how much time it takes ?

Just 15 seconds of your time, which can save your precious life

Did you know….

Washing hands prevents illness and spread of infections to others. Hand washing with soap removes germs from hands. This helps prevent infections because..

1.People frequently touch their eyes, nose and mouth without even realizing it. Germs can get into the body through the eyes, nose and mouth and make us sick.

2.Germs from unwashed hands can get into foods and drinks and while people prepare or consume them.Germs can multiply in some types of foods or drinks, under certain conditions and make people sick.

3.Germs from the unwashed hands can be transferred to other objects, like hand rails, table tops,or toys and then transferred to another persons hands.

4.Removing germs through hand washing ,therefore helps prevent diarrhea and respiratory infections and may even help prevent skin & eye infections

Why hand washing education is important ?

Teaching people about hand washing helps them and their communities to stay healthy.Hand washing education in the community:
  • Reduces the number of people who get sick with diarrhea by 23-40%
  • Reduces diarrheal illness in people with weakened immune system by 58%
  • Reduces respiratory illness, like colds in general population by 16-21%
  • Reduces absenteeism due to gastrointestinal illness in school children by 29-57%

How to wash your hands (the right way) ?

  1. Wet your hands with warm running water before you get to the soap.
  2. Rub you hands together to make as many bubbles as you can.
  3. Make sure the bubbles get all over the front and back of your hands, between your fingers and under your nails.Try to rub your hands for at least 15 seconds.
  4. Rinse all the bubbles off under the warm running water.
  5. Dry your hands with a clean towel, paper towel or air dryer,
  6. If you get something gross on your hands and you don’t have a soap & water, hand sanitizers or wipes can help.
