A slice of a good life

“There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread.” Mahatma Gandhi

Bread is the simplest form of food.

Bread is a staple food.

There are more than 30 varieties of bread in the world.

Sadly we take bread for granted all the time

These days we are not giving much importance and respect to the bread-which it is supposed to command!

We forget that bread is a basic food worldwide

Bread plays an important role in religious rituals and cultural life.

Food riots are scary things and can start with a bread shortage.

It’s said bread shortage has ignited the French Revolution.

Bread is prepared from a dough of flour and water. And we waste water just like that.

Are you aware of the Egyptian proverb?

“Rather a piece of bread with a happy heart than wealth with grief.” Egyptian Proverb

The real King

“Bread is the king of the table and all else is merely the court that surrounds the king. The countries are the soup, the meat, the vegetables, the salad, but bread is king.”  Louis Bromfield

Can Bread be a Delicacy?

Yes. It is.

“Malta is the only country in the world where the local delicacy is the bread.”  Alan Coren

What about people wasting food?

Less said better.

In India, there is significant wastage of food during wedding times. India’s estimated 10 million weddings per year said to waste almost 30% of the food.

I am not sure about food being wasted in other countries.

“Throwing away food is like stealing from the table of those who are poor and hungry”  Pope Francis

Even Busy Bees stop & smell Roses

‘Remain as busy as a bee so that you find no time in discussing the flaw of others. Let your action speak the truth” Swapnam

Are you killing yourself by being busy unnecessarily?

There is nothing wrong with being busy.

But there is something wrong if you are busy to fulfill your greed.

Even the busy bee stops, takes time to smell the flower and picks up the best honey.

“Never get so busy making a living, that you forget to make a life”  Unknown

Spinning like a top

I have been taking photographs of honey bees, hoverflies etc. for quite some time.

One thing I find difficult was photographing the bee when it’s in ‘flight mode’.

I always wished to have a good shot of both the ‘wings’ Viewed from above at the same time with the wings blurred nicely giving a fast-moving ‘spin top’  appearance.

Fortunately, I was successful.

Shutter speed-1/800 sec,f/4.5, Focal length 100 mm, ISO 100

Thank you.

The axe forgets,the tree remembers

One of the finest proverbs

“The axe forgets, what the tree remembers” African Proverb

One can look for wisdom in many ways from this proverb.

Simply put it, the bullies forget what the victim remembers. It can be from physical bullying to cyberbullying or office bullying, school bullying and list is long.

Another example is the borrower often forgets to return to the lender.

The proverb also reminds us that we are all like trees. Some or strong and some are weak. But still, we are all vulnerable.

We hurt others by our words, especially the ones who love us the most.

Victims always remember the hurt because of the scars. It’s much easier to advise them by saying ‘Just move on’!

But then life is life

Nothing can be done about this. So victims instead of talking revenge must adjust with the new realities and make efforts not to look at the scars which can only aggravate the agony.

Just like the trees trying to grow fresh from those injuries and try to bloom with energy and with thoughts of better opportunities ahead.

In this context, I would like to remember this particular quote on the power of ‘Words’

“Your words are strong enough to inspire or destroy a spirit and to break a heart. So be careful and think before you speak or act” Sherry Riter

Whatever you do or say, be a responsible person.

The worst part is the irony of life

“When the axe came into the woods, many of the trees said, ‘At least the handle is one of us.'”  Turkish Proverb

We need to save the trees!

“Imagine if the trees gave off Wifi signals,we would be planting so many trees and we’d save the planet too….Too bad they only produce oxygen we breath”  unknown   Read further…

“They kill good trees to put out bad newspapers.” James G. Watt

Thankfully in the above photo, some part of the tree was preserved and one can note how the life is springing back!!

“Trees are the lungs of the world-Don’t cut trees-They provide us oxygen and clean air and help us breath”  Nelda.org

“If we’re destroying our trees and destroying our environment and hurting animals and hurting one another and all that stuff, there’s got to be a very powerful energy to fight that. I think we need more love in the world. We need more kindness, more compassion, more joy, more laughter. I definitely want to contribute to that.     Ellen DeGeneres

“If I were a tree, I would have no reason to love a human.”     Maggie Stiefvater

Someone had to pay the bills

“Dear God,

All my life I just have been paying bills.bills and just bills……

Nothing seems to be on the house,in this universe of yours.Hereafter it would be a good idea,if you would be kind enough to share my burden

In a 80/20 scheme of sorts, you pay for 80% and I pay for 20%” Savio Fonseca

Love is natural Hatred is taught

“No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin or his back ground or religion.People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite”   Nelson Mandela
