‘Balance’ rocks! Balance your mind!

Have you heard of the term ‘Balancing Rock’?

It’s a natural geological formation involving a large rock, sometimes of enormous size resting on other rocks.

Have you ever wondered how it’s able to balance without falling?

Though they appear to be balancing, the fact is that they are firmly connected to a base rock by a stem.

Anything that Nature teaches you?

“Nature is about balance. All the world comes in pairs – Yin and Yang, right and wrong, men and women; what’s pleasure without pain?” Angelina Jolie

What about the ‘balance’ in your life?

“The best and safest thing is to keep a balance in your life, acknowledge the great power around us and in us. If you can do that and live that way, you are really a wise man” Euripides

How about you in particular?

Just like chasing ‘happiness’…the more you try to pursue ‘balanced life’ the more you realise it’s far away distance.

My friend, every one of us long to be happy and healthy.

I am not just talking about your healthy lifestyle with your regular exercise and eating healthy food which we are all aware of.

I am also talking about you taking care of your mental and emotional health.

Here comes how well you can manage your stress leading to a balanced living.

Balanced life

Balanced life consists of all aspects of your life including your relationships, the food you eat, your exercises and how well you can manage your emotional health.

The day you decide that you are least bothered about the stress, is the day you start living a balanced life.

My friend, remember that nothing goes right all the time as per expectations and you achieve nothing if you become emotional.

My formula

This is apart from the proper food and regular exercise.

  • Mingle with people who can make you laugh
  • Receive as well as give
  • Be content
  • If you are physically fit, try to be a volunteer and bring smiles to the faces of people who needed it much more.
  • Be flexible when tragedy strikes
  • Most importantly learn to be peaceful with yourself
  • Always tell yourself that life is a balancing act and everything is in constant motion
  • Don’t complain or get angry

Concrete Jungle

Do you agree with the quote by Desmond Morris?

He says

“Some people call the city a ‘concrete jungle’ — but jungles aren’t like that. Animals in jungles aren’t overcrowded. And overcrowding is the central problem of modern city life. If you want to look for crowded animals, you have to look in the zoo. And then it occurred to me: The city is not a concrete jungle- it’s a human zoo” Desmond Morris

Now coming to human thinkers.

Are you aware of concrete thinking and abstract thinking?

My friend, human brains are simply complicated.

Concrete thinking refers to thinking superficially. Concrete thinking is concerned with the physical, the here and now.

Abstract thinking is thinking more deeply.

If a concrete thinker sees a tree, the person just says the leaves are green.

Abstract thinkers go one step ahead and think about why the leaves are green.

Fog is not mysterious, fog is the mystery itself- Mehmet Murat ildan

What is fog to do with our mindset?

“When you are happy, you feel the sunshine even inside the fog; when you are unhappy, you feel the fog even in the sunshine” Mehmet Murat Ildan

The above quote perfectly analyses the human’ mindset.

Human minds are unreliable

It’s worse than a monkey’s mind.

I really can’t understand why the human mind has to be so complicated.

I guess Animals other than monkeys are better off!

“The mind is its own place and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.”  John Milton

Strange that we lead simple life into a mess.

Do you have any answers?

I don’t have an answer.

What about you ?

I think We all are crazy.

At least can you try for a reasonable and acceptable explanation?

No chance my friend.

The truth is revealed in this lovely quote.

“(Sometimes) you will come face to face with the sudden and shocking realization that you are completely crazy. Your mind is a shrieking, gibbering madhouse on wheels barreling pell-mell down the hill, utterly out of control and hopeless. No problem. You are not crazier than you were yesterday. Can our minds be pure?

Just not possible.

Accept it. Live with it.

The only thing that is possible is, you can become better than the person you were

yesterday.

Since our minds can not be pure, all the time, we experience sorrow.

“We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves” Buddha

Now coming to Fog vs Mist

Many times one gets confused with the usage of ‘fog’ & ‘mist’.

Both are made up of water droplets, they differ in density and location.

Fog is denser than mist.

Mist is a lighter version of fog.

Fog is a cloud reaching the ground level.

Fog reduces visibility less than 1 Km (3280 ft)

Mist reduces visibility to less than 1 to 2 Km (3280 to 6560 ft)

Rest

“Every person needs to take one day away.  A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future.  Jobs, family, employers, and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence.  Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for.  Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.” Maya Angelou

My friend, how regularly do you take a rest?

I mean taking a day away as Maya Angelou said.

I know, all of us are busy forever and we never find time to rest and retrospect.

Some said that, we all sleep regularly and that too 8 to 10 hours hence no need to be lazy by resting!

Do you agree?

We often use ‘Rest’ and ‘Sleep’ similarly.

But they are different.

Rest

My guess is during ‘rest’ we relax our body. The mood is a bit calm.

One may even close the eyes with a few thoughts happening in between.

Here the brain is fully active.

One is also conscious of the surroundings.

Most of the times ‘rest’ is much shorter than sleep.

In rest, dreams don’t happen.

I put the ‘vacation’ as a kind of rest when not much physical activity is undertaken.

Animals too rest after hunting.

What if the mind is restless during rest?

My friend, I have no answer for this.

I am under the impression that ‘rest’ conveys the meaning of cessation of physical activity and not mental activity.

Remember other than during sound sleep, the mind is always busy and in many, it is restless.

Nothing you can do about this.

You have to live with it.

“We humans have lost the wisdom of genuinely resting and relaxing. We worry too much. We don’t allow our bodies to heal, and we don’t allow our minds and hearts to heal” Nhat Hanh

Sleep

In sleep, there is an altered state of consciousness.

In sleep, the individual’s perception of the external world is significantly reduced.

The body shuts down and said to refresh and rejuvenate later.

In sleep, one can dream.

Sleep is the Natural way of rest.

The main difference between Rest and Sleep

The sleeping period is part of the ‘resting period’.

All the ‘resting period’ is not part of the ‘sleeping period’.

What about Nap?

Nap is said to be a short period of sleep, anywhere between 10 to 20 minutes and during the daytime.

Sleep experts advise having napping before 2.00 pm.

Napping is said to improve mood.

“I got 99 problems but I’m gonna take a nap and ignore them all” Unknown

How to tell if someone is resting or sleeping?

My friend, always I admire you for asking such questions.

I don’t have a ready answer.

But I remember the idiom… ‘you can never wake a person who is pretending to be asleep’

Thoughts Day

Mind & Heart- can they be good friends?

“Your mind can be your enemy or friend.

Is it possible to maintain a good relationship between your mind and your heart?

I doubt.

What happens?

“The difference between your mind and heart,

Your mind tells you what is smart and 

Your heart tells you what you are going to do anyway” Unknown

This clearly tells you that if you follow your heart you lose your mind!

And if you follow your mind, your heart goes into attack mode!

Who is the actual winner?

“Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart, rather than a piece of our mind”  Unknown

And the lesson is…

“The struggle between what my mind wants to focus, what my heart is feeling and what my soul is going through is unexplained” Sajida Sheik

All of us are sailing in the same boat!

So just relax and do breathing exercises.

Don’t confuse your mind with these complicated thoughts and thus stress your heart! ❤

 Good Health

✔Develop faith that things will take a shape on their own

✔Allow nature to take its due course

✔It’s Ok if things are not as per your mind’s expectations

✔Let go little and let just life happen
