Thursday Thoughts

Are you content with your present life my friend?

Am I stupid to ask this question?

I know there is so much going on in your mind at this moment about so many things that happened or happening in your life.

I also know that the net result most of the time is a disappointment.

This is because you always feel that something is lacking in your life.

Sometimes you feel like prioritizing things but helplessly you are attracted to different priorities and on many occasions, you landed in a mess.

What is the definition of contented life?

Merriam Webster defines contented life as

‘Feeling or showing satisfaction with one’s possessions, status or situations’

Whatever may be in your possession- you are not happy.

Whatever may be your status- you are not happy

Whatever may be the situation- you are not happy.

How to be content?

A million-dollar question.

The simple answer is ‘You can’t be content!

I know, you are surprised.

Yes, my friend, your face is telling the truth. I can see your expression!

In reality, nobody can satisfy anybody.

One can satisfy by only oneself, which is again next to impossibility.

Why disappointment is so strong in you?

This is because

“Disappointment hurts more than pain” American Proverb

Some said all this is happening because of the 3 Cs

✔consumerism

In today’s consumerism-driven world, we often become obsessed with owning the newest gadgets, brands, and fashion. Material wealth and social status are false paths to happiness.” Jay D’Cee

✔competition

“Life is not a competition. Life is about helping and inspiring others so we can each reach our Potential” Kim Chase

✔Comparisons

“Comparison is the fastest way to feel unhappy” Unknown

Apart from this whether you are rich, poor or come under the middle-income bracket… it means nothing to you, since you are always trying to elevate further and in the process getting disappointed since nothing happens according to your wishes.

There is always somebody leading a better life than you.

This mentality is the problem with you, my friend.

What are my suggestions?

There is no rule that you should follow.

  • Accept yourself
  • Accept your limitations
  • Accept your strength and weakness
  • Stop comparing
  • Start loving yourself
  • Your mistakes allow you to learn
  • Take care of your mind and body health
  • Express gratitude for what you have
  • Do what you love and love what you do
  • Since relations & friendships directly impact your life, stay committed

Thank you for visiting my site and taking your time to read.

Take care, my friend.

Sunday Wisdom

” A sunday well spent brings a week of content”

If ever there was a phrase to live your life by…this is it!

My dear friend, hope your Sunday is going to be fantastic!

Of course in India, we are almost entering the evening phase as you noticed in the above photograph, and the Sun is setting almost hidden by the tree leaves and the orange sky is mesmerizing.

Have a great Sunday!

Thank you.

Just one person around the world

What exactly is the above person doing?

Is he pointing a finger at somebody else? Or

Is he wondering about something unbelievable, he saw just moments ago?

And we never know what is he up to.

But one thing I can say that he is charming, got a smiling face and looks like a happy and contented man.

And he appears pleasing and a gifted person.

After all in one’s life what else one wants and wishes for?

A smiling face and a contented heart.

“Contentment does not mean that I desire nothing, but rather, it’s a simple decision to be happy with what I have” Paula Rollo

Are Contentment & Satisfaction the same?

No, my friend.

Contentment is happiness in one’s situation. One is at ease physically & mentally. Contentment is a permanent status. You are happy although you did not achieve or gain something.

Satisfaction is gratification.

You are satisfied only after fulfilling a deed or need and you get pleasure out of this.

And you aim again for the next goal and it’s never ending. Satisfaction is temporary.

This post is part of Cady’s Just One Person Around The World – photo challenge.

Cady says

“There are a lot of folks in the world, who are everyday folks, just trying to provide food and shelter and love……….they are trying to make a living…….keep their kids educated and basically just take care of their families, without an agenda. Me too. I think there is more of us…. Just trying to live our lives….. So, I would like to take the time to focus on one person a week to bring us together, to celebrate ordinary folks”.

Thank you.

Contentment

The image below is that of a hut in an Indian Village.

Village Hut

And the person owning this hut told me he is very happy because he can sleep peacefully, and he knows it’s real value since he comes across everyday people without a roof over their heads.

What does this teach us?

“As you get older, you’ll realise that a £250 watch and a £25 watch both tell the same time.

A Michael Kors wallet and a Primark wallet hold the same amount of money.

A £500,000 and a £100,000 house host the same loneliness.

True happiness is not found in materialistic things.”   Fuad Alakbarov

Of course one need not grow old to understand this truth.

What do you think of the quote below?

“For every dollar spent on luxuries, someone somewhere goes hungry.”
Abhijit Naskar

in other words, are we unable to differentiate between luxury and necessity and go on wasting our money, time and energy in possessing materials for sensual pleasure?

Your necessity is someone’s luxury

While you complain about your life, there is someone dreaming of it!

What is contentment?

“Contentment doesn’t mean that I desire nothing. But rather it’s the simple decision to be happy, with what I have”  Paula Rollo

But the present-day definition of ‘contentment’ is different

Everybody thinks that being popular in social media brings happiness and contentment.

The more number of followers, shares and likes, the greater the happiness!

Unfortunately you are revealing too much of yourself!

My friend, it’s a recipe for disaster!

Going offline is the true meaning of contentment.

  • Offline is the ‘New Luxury’
  • Offline is peace of mind.
  • Offline is the new definition of happiness.
  • Offline reduces your stress level.
  • Offline improves family bonding
  • People stopped visiting a sex therapist
  • You reveal less about yourself
  • You have plenty of time to attend to your personal work and ambitions.
  • You an fulfill your desires in a fruitful way.

Please share your thoughts.

Thank you.

Tuesday Thoughts

How much enough is enough?

We are humans and so there is no such thing called ‘Enough’ in our dictionary.

We always lead our life unsatisfied with what we already possess and want more and more.

We are unable to say enough even when our requirements are fully met.

After fulfilling our wishes and temptations, we jump to another.

Our wishes are never-ending.

We always feel something missing in our lives and yearn to get it at any cost and in the process losing your happiness.

And we don’t hesitate to blame the Almighty.

It is said it’s impossible to change this mindset of humans in these matters.

Why one is never content….I don’t have a ready answer.

Is any solution available?

“If you look at what you have in life, you’ll always have more,

If you look at what you don’t have in life, you’ll never have enough”

Oprah Winfrey

Thank you.

Less comparison..more gain!

“Beauty begins, the moment you decide to be yourself” Cocochanel Image by Jhonatan Reategui from Pixabay

Are we guilty of comparing ourselves to others ?

Unfortunately the answer is YES and all of us are guilty and easily fall into the trap.

Social media no doubt adding to the misfortune.

And there is nothing wrong comparing ourselves to others,in fact one gets confidence in achieving set of goals.

The inspiration evolving out of comparison should be on a positive note rather than a depressing one.

But the problem arises when you start thinking that you are not as good as others and that all your efforts are going waste and you are unfit etc etc.

You know the proverb ‘ Gross is greener always on the other side of the fence’

A healthy comparison is acceptable but comparisons should not become obsession.

Can you be ‘the best guy’ at any given time ?

Understand that comparisons can never end because there is always someone better than you.

By comparing with others ,are you not downgrading your self ?

You know that it results in heartburn and many other health issues.

How to stop comparisons ?

1.Realize that people whom you think successful have their own quota of unhappiness.

2.Believe in yourself.

3.Academic success not necessarily lead to happiness.

4.Start comparing with self and become a better person.

5.Money is everything…..only to some extent.

6.I am not joking ….take a break from social media.

7.Always remember that there is no such thing as ‘Perfect Life’

8.Stop insulting your God given intelligentsia.

What are the positive aspects of not comparing with others ?

1.Contentment– this happens because you know that life is flawed and cruel, and thankfully God is kind to you and you are happy with the present state of affairs.

2.Unique– Feel you are unique.Remember God made you as an unique individual for a reason.

3.Self Confidence-Once you stop comparing, you get the intuition that you are nothing less.

4.Living in the present-you start enjoying every moment of your ‘present’ since no more you think of others.

5.You become intelligent-By focusing your aims you achieve the success gradually. No distractions.
