Hard to believe our family tree produced so many nuts!

National Almond Day

Do you know that National Almond day is celebrated on February 16 annually?

Almonds are said to be the most heart-healthy nut.

They are rich in protein, fat,  Vitamin E, fibre, magnesium, manganese and are said to lower cholesterol.

Almond is eaten directly or by adding to milk, pasta or butter.

As per the Dietary Guidelines for Americans advised to remember 1-2-3, 1 ounce of almonds (28gms), or about 23 almond nuts, as the daily ideal consumption of Almonds.

One particular downside of eating almonds daily and in large quantities is weight gain.

If you are on medication you must be careful about regular eating since it contains high manganese.

Let us thank the bees first, without their help almonds can’t be produced.

So never kill the bees.

Secondly, let us be grateful to farmers who yield these nutritional nuts.

“Life is a bag of mixed nuts. Reach out and pick one, you’ll never know what you’ll get”  Jessica Keyes

Thank you.

Bees & Flowers

“Bees have so much to offer us if we only listen”.    Jay Ebben

But who has time to listen? A million-dollar question.

“A honey bee visits 2 million flowers to collect just 500 mg of honey. Compare it with your work, if you ever feel overworked…keep going”  Prakash Choudhary Ladwa

The most important lesson from the bees

‘Like the bee gathering honey from different flowers, the wise person accepts the essence of the different scriptures and sees only the good in all religions”  Mahatma Gandhi

“The busy bee has no time for sorrow.” William Blake

Thank you.

Can you answer?

“Three Things Are Difficult To Understand. The Work Of The Bees, The Movements Of The Tide And The Mind Of A Woman.”
Quote from Boardwalk Empire – tv series

Why the author of this quote compares bees & Tide to woman’s mind?

Thank you.

Honey Bees

The bee collects honey from flowers in such a way as to do the least damage or destruction to them, and he leaves them whole, undamaged and fresh, just as he found them                           Saint Francis de Sales

It’s a 4.0 minute read.

However scientifically we have advanced,we still can’t extract honey from the flower.Only Bees are capable of doing that job.

For argument sake yes, humans can extract but they can’t pollinate.

Bees are one of the wonderful creatures of the Almighty.

How frequently Bees visit flowers ?

Typically it takes 2 million visits to a flower for the bees to produce one pound of honey.

Check this interesting link Honey-Trivia

Is not a fact that we all fear Bees?

Yes.We all fear bees, because they sting us,if disturbed. But remember they sting only when they feel threatened.Don’t swat.

We feel threatened when  we find Beehives in the Apartment complexes, immediately we try to destroy it.Remember honeybee colonies should never be exterminated.

Bee hive

Every ant knows the formula of its ant-hill, every bee knows the formula of its beehive. They know it in their own way, not in our way. Only humankind does not know its own formula Fyodor Dostoevsky

Honey bee lives about 40 days and do you know that the bees work to death gathering nectar ?

We can learn lot from Bees.

What do the bees teach us ?

  1. First thing comes to out mind is the team work, humans miserably fail in this regard by having ego and individualistic traits.
  2. Bees always give their hundred percent for the cause of producing honey. We humans have tendency to find excuses while carrying out our jobs.
  3. Defending the family against the outside interference ,where as we act in a selfish way creating disharmony with family members.
  4. Bees adapt to their surrounding, while we make a big fuss about any change in our environment.

Why Bees are important to us ?

Bees are not just for the Honey.

We need them because they are pollinators.Because of these pollinators,we are able to have our daily food.

Not convinced ?

Then check the following food items which you relish/savor regularly on an autopilot mode, depend on bees

  • Apples
  • Apricots
  • Avocados
  • Bell pepper
  • Broccoli
  • Sprouts
  • Cabbages
  • Cardamon

I can go on and on but the list is really long, more than 40 food items, which we routinely take for granted.

Here is the list of food items- The food items which depend on the Bees

Neither kill the bees nor destroy the beehives

My friend, the very survival of humans depends on the survival of the bees.

“If the bee disappeared on the face of the earth, man would only have four years left to liver  Maurice Maeterlinck

How our world looks without Honeybees?

It’s a dead world.
