“One does not have to be a philosopher to be a successful artist, but he does have to be an artist to be a successful philosopher. His nature is to view the world in an unpredictable albeit useful light.”  Criss Jami

“If you want to see a better world, change the lens through which you see it and do the work to make it better.” Jeffrey G. Duarte

What is Nefelibata?

Portuguese in origin, derived from “nefele” (cloud) and “batha” (a place to walk), it literally translates to “cloud walker”.

Noun –

  • daydreamer;
  • a person lost in imagination;
  • an unorthodox person who doesn’t abide by the rules of society

Let us talk about Abstract Art.

For some, it’s an unorthodox style of art where the viewer can make out nothing, despite spending hours in front of the well-framed art, elegantly decorated on the wall.

“Art should look like art, trees and flowers and people, not weird shapes and splotches of color all smeared together.”
 Jennifer Estep

“Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable one” Banksy

At first glance, I can make out colors & brush strokes and the art appears colorful and I am confident that, I can come out with some message as I continue to imagine the possibilities. A kind of challenge to my brain.

“A Picture is worth a thousand words-particularly if you can’t read “. Harry Hershfield

While professional artists give us a different explanation.

“Abstraction allows man to see with his mind what he cannot see physically with his eyes…Abstract art enables the artist to perceive beyond the tangible, to extract the infinite out of the finite. It is the emancipation of the mind. It is an exploration into unknown areas.”
Arshile Gorky

I agree with the thoughts of the artist, and one must think about what exactly the artist is trying to convey. It gives immense pleasure if you can derive your meaning and the artist is truly delighted.

I feel the viewer should come out with their thoughts instead of pondering. It is challenging to conclude as to what is in the mind of the artist.

If you still can’t understand, you can always check with the Artist and get enriched regarding the artist’s thought process.

Probably interpretation of the art by you depends on how intelligent you are!

What are your thoughts my friend ?

CFFC- Painting to Peeling

“Every canvas is a journey all its own.”   Helen Frankenthaler

“How memories lie to us. How time coats the ordinary with gold. How it breaks the heart to go back and attempt to re-live them. How crushed we are when we discover that the gold was merely gold-plating thinly coated over lead, chalk and peeling paint”. Henry Rollins

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up”   Pablo Picasso

Your dictionary.com defines patchwork as

  1. anything formed of irregular, incongruous, odd, or miscellaneous parts; jumble
  2. a quilt or other covering made of patches of cloth, etc. sewn together at their edges
  3. any design or surface like this

When we are young, we think life will be like a supo: one fabric, one weave, one grand design. But in truth, life turns out to be more like the patchwork cloths-bits and pieces, odds and ends-people, places, things we never expected, never wanted, perhaps     Alan Brennert

We are all patchwork, and so shapeless and diverse in composition that each bit, each moment, plays its own game      Michel de Montaign

Graffiti And Murals

Wall art graffiti

Wall art graffiti

“Some people become cops because they want to make the world a better place. Some people become vandals because they want to make the world a better looking place.”

Both were noticed in Bergen,Norway. As an outsider,I don’t know its significance and the meaning exactly these two graffiti convey.

Somebody can explain.
Graffiti- Art or Vandalism ?

Art is in the eye of the beholder. What is art to one person, is graffiti to another

My sincere thanks to Cee Neuner (aka Christine R Neuner)
