Do you gobble up alcohol?

“Gobble ’til you wobble” Unknown

It’s human nature that we gobble up things when we are greedy and in a hurry.

I can understand this behaviour of yours when you have unearthed a huge pot overfilled with gold coins.

But with food and alcohol??

I have noticed this behaviour especially in organised events where food and alcohol are served unlimited.

When I asked majority said they get that kick and start flying high soon that they enjoy thoroughly.

But sadly I have seen these people vomiting soon after eating their food (eating greedily)

On festival occasions, this habit reaches its peak.

Nobody is concerned about health.

Who cares about their health when they are enjoying their Heaven?

Why humans have become so greedy?

I don’t have a ready answer.

“Greed makes a man blind and foolish and makes him an easy prey for death” Rumi

There’s too much blood in my alcohol system- unknown

“Drunkenness is nothing but voluntary madness” Seneca

Don’t read this post if you are not a ‘Spirit’ lover.

How much alcohol one can consume daily?

I am sure it’s a difficult question to answer.

My guess is it depends on your mood.

It also depends on the situation.

And the intensity of your attraction towards it.

In the end, you may not be in a position to measure the quantity consumed.

What exactly do you do after consumption?

“Drinking makes a person lose his inhibitions and give exhibitions” Nancy Astor

How dangerous is alcohol?

Read this quote.

“Is life worth living? It all depends on the liver” William James

What is the truth about alcohol?

Listen to this Wiseman.

“Alcohol is the anaesthesia by which we endure the operation of life.” George Bernard Shaw

Does consumption of alcohol serve us in any way?

Alcohol consumption never serves us. But we serve others indirectly.

“Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink, I feel shame! Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn’t drink this wine, they might be out of work, and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, “It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver” Jack Handey

Can we explain why alcoholics always feel smarter?

There is a simple logical analysis that can help you understand better.

“Well ya see, Norm, it’s like this. A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole because the general speed and health of the whole group keep improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine! That’s why you always feel smarter after a few beers.”  Cliff Clavin

Disclaimer– Consumption of alcohol is injurious to health. Don’t drink and drive.

Cellpic Sunday

As per John Steiner of  JOURNEYS WITH JOHNBO

I encourage fellow bloggers to create their own Cellpic Sunday posts. I never have a specific topic for this feature, and the only rules are that the photo must be captured with a cell phone, iPad, or another mobile device… If you have an image from a drone, that’s acceptable as well. The second rule is to link your challenge-response to this post or leave a comment here with a link to your post in the comment.

Hello? Is it beer you are looking for?

Hello…Is it me you’re looking for?

The title reminded me of the popular  Lionel Richie’s song Hello, which reached number one on three Billboard music charts.

My God! What a beautiful song!

Such great lyrics!

I loved the way it was scripted.

The song was produced in 1983 and I am sure those born before that time loved the song

Do you know what  BEER stands for?

B = Brew

E= Enjoy

E= Empty

R- Repeat

Secret of Beer

‘Beer is an improvement on the water itself” Grant Johnson

Does beer remove kidney stones-real or myth?

My friend, it’s true to some extent.

But you should be aware of something about beer’s property and kidney stone’s size. ( Kidney stone size is assessed in ultrasound studies).

Beer is a diuretic, which means it produces a lot of urine and can help passage of stones less than 3 mm. If the stone measures more than 3 mm, don’t expect beer to help you and you will be wasting money on beer at the cost of your health and finance.

Sadly prolonged beer intake makes you dehydrated to remember that beer can increase the risk of uric acid stone formation and damaging kidneys further!

And beer is alcohol my friend, sure to harm your liver.

So always better you consume in moderate quantities.

Finally

“I got 99 problems and beer solves every one of them” Unknown.

Thank you.

Hepatitis can’t wait!

“Is life worth living? It all depends on the liver” William James

Your Liver commands respect

“Every chemical that makes it into your bloodstream – be it through your lungs, stomach, or skin – meets up with your liver at some point. Since your liver is your body’s best defence when it comes to filtering out all those toxins, you need to treat it well”  Suzanne Somers

World Hepatitis Day is celebrated annually on the 28th of July

This year the theme for World Hepatitis Day is ‘HEPATITIS CAN’T WAIT’.

It’s said that a person is dying every 30 seconds from a hepatitis-related illness.

  • People living with viral hepatitis unaware can’t wait for testing
  • People living with hepatitis can’t wait for life-saving treatments
  • Expectant mothers can’t wait for hepatitis screening and treatment
  • Newborn babies can’t wait for birth dose vaccination
  • People affected by hepatitis can’t wait to end stigma and discrimination
  • Community organisations can’t wait for greater investment
  • Decision-makers can’t wait and must act now to make hepatitis elimination a reality through political will and funding.

What is hepatitis?

Hepatitis is the inflammation of the liver caused by viruses.

The viruses that cause the inflammation are named after letters, A, B, C, D, and E.

Hepatitis B and C can cause liver cancer.

The majority of people are unaware that they are infected with the virus.

Exact Causes

Hepatitis A & E are caused due to eating contaminated food or drinking contaminated water.

Hepatitis B is caused by contact with the blood or body fluids of another infected person.

Hepatitis C and D are caused due to blood to blood contact.

Have you ever visited a patient suffering from liver damage?

I bet you start giving importance to your lifestyle!

And you are sure to take precautions to protect your liver.

How to protect the liver? ( General precaution)

  1. Maintain a healthy diet. You may ask what is a healthy diet? My friend, you can check with your dietician or internet’. The idea is to have a balanced diet.
  2. During a blood transfusion, ensure a safe process and prevent getting infected with Hepatitis B or C viruses
  3. Hepatitis B & C can also be transmitted sexually. Safe sex is advised.
  4. Don’t share toothbrushes, razors, needles or other personal care items
  5. If you are planning tattooing or piercing get vaccinated for hepatitis B.
  6. Regarding Hepatitis A infection, people get it by having close contact with a person who is infected from food or drinks, prepared by someone infected. It can also come by eating food, harvested from sewage-contaminated water.
  7. Avoid toxins. Toxins I mean insecticides, chemicals and aerosol products. Wear a mask and limit direct contact with these chemicals by wearing gloves.
  8. The majority of us love Alcohol and enjoy consuming the same. And in many places, it forms part of the culture and tradition. My advice is to stay away from alcohol. If you can’t, then consume alcohol responsibly.
  9. Avoid smoking.
  10. Avoid substances like cocaine, marijuana, hashish, heroin, inhalations, psychotherapeutic ( When used non medically).

Specific preventive measures for Hepatitis

Vaccines are available for Hepatitis A and B.

For Hepatitis C, D and E…there is no vaccination available.

So one must be careful and follow the measures to protect the liver as mentioned above.

Love your liver and live longer.

Thank you.

“Is life worth living?…It all depends on the liver.” – William James

Sonography showing fatty infiltration of the liver

This topic is for non-medical people.

Do you know?

Many of you may not be aware that World Liver Day is celebrated on April 19.

The idea is to spread awareness about liver-related conditions and diseases.

You may also be not aware of the fact that, after the brain, the liver is the second most complex organ in the body responsible for digestion, metabolism, immunity and acts as a storage place for many of the nutrients, which are replenished from the liver when the body is deprived of the essentials.

And it’s your responsibility to keep your liver in good shape and thus preventing liver diseases.

I am not going into the details but I can cover the topic briefly.

The common type of Liver Diseases include

  • Non-alcoholic fatty liver
  • Hepatitis A, B & C (July 28 celebrated as world hepatitis day)
  • Alcoholic Liver disease
  • I am not talking about liver cancer etc.

Viruses, genetic or lifestyle factors cause liver damage and later liver failure.

Lifestyle factors include

  • Excessive intake of alcohol
  • Overeating
  • Obesity, smoking
  • Unhealthy food habits
  • Lack of regular exercise
  • Lack of hygiene and
  • Not practising safe sex
  • Sharing personal care items

and I can go on.

The peculiarity of the liver disease

I want to impress you to the fact that you are never aware of the damage to your liver since there is no immediate signs or symptoms of liver damage because the liver strives its best till its last breath to take care of your body metabolism and by the time the symptoms start your liver is severely damaged.

One may experience early symptoms like, loss of weight,  nausea which most of you ignore and only when your eyes or urine becomes yellow and your body starts itching all over, then you start seeing your physician.

How to protect your liver?

  1. Maintain a healthy diet. You may ask what is a healthy diet? My friend, you can check with your dietician or internet’.The idea is to have a balanced diet.
  2. During a blood transfusion, ensure a safe process and prevent getting infected with Hepatitis B or C viruses

Wishing you all a ‘Happy Liver Day’

Don’t take certain quotes seriously

Ask not what wine has done for you but rather what you are willing to do for some wine. Unknown

How many rounds make one, more knowledgeable?

One, two, three or more?

Shall I tell you the truth?

The more wine, merrier.

It’s said, a person’s philosophy is at its best.

The person becomes more elegant and balanced and thinking power reaches its peak.

Solutions are found for the problems easily and worries are forgotten.

No doubt philosophers enjoy each other’s company and the catalytic being the wine.

Do you know the Medieval German saying?

“Drink wine, and you will sleep well. Sleep, and you will not sin. Avoid sin, and you will be saved. Ergo, drink wine and be saved”

Secret of Wine

Wine is much more than just a drink.
