It’s 3.9 minute read.But still I feel it is important to read.Have patience.

This day is celebrated on 12 th June to bring awareness about NAFLD (Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease ) and NASH (Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis )

What exactly happens in NASH?

When excess fat accumulates in the liver resulting in inflammation and injury to liver cells.

People are unaware that their liver is getting damaged. A simple Ultrasound study can help, but people are lazy to go to the scan center.

All of us think liver is damaged only if one indulges in reckless consumption of alcohol

Not necessarily, my friend.

As you notice the above two abbreviations ( NASH, NAFLD ), both convey the meaning that the liver can be damaged even without the consumption of alcohol.

Are you not surprised?

I know those of you who don’t belong to the medical profession are surprised.

Liver damage can happen without Alcohol. There are many reasons for liver cell damage.

The commonest cause of Nonalcoholic liver damage

It’s your lifestyle that is causing the problem which is categorized under “Lifestyle diseases”.

Can this be explained further?

You all know already of the modern lifestyle

But I still explain.

  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Sedentary lifestyle+high liquor cocktail
  • Regular consumption of Junk foods ( don’t ask me what junk food is )
  • Obesity

What is the medical term used to describe the lifestyle ‘liver disease’?

It’s known by the name Fatty Liver Disease.

You will be surprised to know that if 10 ultrasound scans are done 9 out of 10 would have mentioned the term ‘Fatty Liver’ in the report. Of course, there are grades in fatty liver.

Why fatty liver disease is dangerous ?

It’s a silent epidemic.

The disease can remain asymptomatic for decades and then give you a debilitating blow!

And it’s too late by that time.

What can happen if fatty liver is ignored?

Fatty liver→ Liver Cirrhosis→ liver cancer→ Liver transplant→ poor quality of rest of the life

What I want you to do?

It’s not a Herculean task

  • If you are overweight or obese, try to reduce weight by a combination of a healthy diet along with exercise.
  • Don’t give excuses for hitting the gym, that you don’t have time, the alarm didn’t ring, you slept late, or you are tired, etc.
  • If you have diabetes, hypertension or high lipids take treatment accordingly under supervision.
  • Be kind to your liver by avoiding alcohol at any cost, and don’t blame culture for alcohol intake.

Any alternate medicines for a damaged liver?

My dear friend, unfortunately, there is no alternative medicines. The only treatment is a liver transplant for a failed liver.

This day is Celebrated on May 17 th.

We are all under pressure because of Covid-19,adding to our blood pressure.

The World Hypertension League (WHL) has announced that it will postpone the celebration of World Hypertension Day (WHD) 2020 until October 17, 2020, due to global COVID-19 pandemic. World Hypertension Day

The expanded theme for World Hypertension Day is Measure Your Blood Pressure, Control It, Live Longer, with a goal of increasing high blood pressure (BP) awareness in all populations around the world.

It’s a 6.5 minute read.

Have you ever checked your BP ( blood pressure ) ?

If not,first thing you do is to see a physician and get checked.

Is your PB pressurised because you are under pressure ?

Why knowledge about Hypertension important ?

Because high blood pressure is a ‘Silent Killer‘.

The medical term used for High Blood Pressure is ‘Hypertension’

What do I mean by silent killer ?

Most of you with Hypertension have no symptoms and when the blood pressure goes up. you are not even aware.

High BP develops gradually and over the time.If you are careless, by the time you realize you would have developed one of these complications,hence it is said to be a silent killer.

  • Stroke,
  • Heart attack
  • Kidney failure
  • Vision loss
  • Sexual dysfunction

High BP can not be cured.It can be managed through life style changes and medications as per your doctors advice.

Managing blood pressure is a life long commitment and a test for your will power.

There are many reasons why one can develop Blood Pressure, ( Please consult your Doctor )

‘Life Style’ is one of them and I am limiting my discussion to this aspect.

What is life style ?

Wikipedia defines “Lifestyle is the interests, opinions, behaviors, and behavioral orientations of an individual, group, or culture”

Are you under pressure,based on your lifestyle philosophy?

I am suggesting some of your life style aspects which can elevate your Blood pressure.

1.Reacting to each and every incident that happens to you.Your response & if your reaction is more than what is required, leading to stress.

2.Tension,anxiety,imaginary worries,thinking of future,stress… out of physical,mental, emotional exhaustion.

3.Smoking & Drinking habits-You indulge in smoking or drinking because you are under stress and you think these habits make you forget the problem and in the process you get addicted and even hooked.

4.Being Overweight- result of Eating habits/physical activity.

Obesity happens over the time. Because of eating too much ( wrong foods ) and at the same time lacking physical activity.

you are stressed because of friends and colleges making fun of your body.Not just that, you also have to face the health related complications arising from being overweight.

I shall discuss each in detail

1.Stress

“Stress is thrash of modern life,we all generate it but if you don’t dispose it properly,it will pile up and overtake your life” Danzae pace

By definition,stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from demanding circumstances.

Stress affects all of us.Mild stress is OK,since it makes you get ready to solve your problems.But chronic stress affects the health which is irreversible.

When you are stressed, your body reacts in flight or fight mode,because stress hormones are produced.

The problem with stress hormones is that your body responds by increasing your blood pressure to pump blood to the body muscles so that body is in a position to react to the situation.

Our bodies can easily deal mild degrees of stress.However the chronic stress and the consequence of these stress hormones lead to Hypertension.

Stress triggers highly vary from one individual to other and it is difficult to gauze how mildly or strongly you react to the situation.stress can affect you emotionally,physically and even your behavior may change.
Solution– Never react to the situation immediately.Understand that you can’t not control every thing that happens to you.Think for a while and make sincere attempts to find an alternate or look into the problem in a different perspective.Exercise regularly and stay positive.

2.Smoking

Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world.I know because I’ve done it thousands of times”. Mark Twain

Jokes apart,you all know that smoking is bad for lungs and can lead to lung cancer.Are you aware that it can also lead to high blood pressure and heart disease ?

Nicotine is the culprit.It increases your heart rate,narrows the blood vessels by hardening it’s walls and thus increases your blood pressure.
Solution-Just quit smoking.Don’t ask me how and when.

3.Drinking

” Alcohol,what is that ? It’s not in my Vodkabulary,but let me check in Whiskypedia. Unknown

On a lighter note it is said alcohol is the cause and also the solution- to all your problems.

You are aware that alcohol causes liver and digestive problems.You will be shocked to know that chronic consumption leads to hypertension.

Nevertheless people take things easy in alcohol matters and when questioned about high consumption they come out with funny explanations.

Alcohol contains calories that contributes to weight gain which is a risk factor for high blood pressure.Alcohol formula itself triggers hypertension.

Solution-Just stop drinking.Quicker the decision made better for everyone around you.

4.Obesity

“Obesity Is not because it runs in the family !!! It is because no one runs in the family !!” unknown

Though there are many causes for obesity,sedentary life style and high calorie/fat food in take are major reasons.When we eat junk food and don’t exercise we get fat.

Solution-Regular physical activity, 60 to 90 minutes of moderate activity and dietary modifications under a nutritionist guidance helps you to keep a check on your weight

All of are aware that we have an amazing God’s gift in our bodies in the form of Kidneys,a wonder organ,but sadly many of us forget its importance,and ignore the steps to be taken in order to protect the organ from diseases and take things granted in our usual style.

Kidneys are symbol of conscience,emotions,desire ,wisdom & morality. ( Bible )

Did you ever consider having tests done to know the status of your kidneys ?

Do you know millions of people die because of kidney failure ? Kidney disease is a non communicable disease and approximately 850 million people are affected in the world.

I am not into details of why kidneys fail etc,but just to bring awareness of how important are kidneys to maintain body health.

In some parts of the world, men are so ignorant that they think or even call testicles as kidneys.

People even crack joke on these organs, (highly insulting to the great organ )

Celebrate this World Kidney Day by getting a full body check up.

Most of the people  with early kidney disease have no symptoms making it all the more important to detect the disease early.

  1. B.P test-Checking your Blood pressure.
  2. Urine test- Protein in urine.
  3. Blood test- GFR ( glomerular filtration rate )

  • Control Blood sugar and Blood pressure.
  • Don’t take pain killers / anti inflammatory tablets  regularly. They are nephrotoxic.

What makes you angry ?

One can come out with million reasons as to why,one gets angry.

Well, we all get angry and upset,if our expectations are far below than what we imagine.

But why anger chemicals are triggered in the brain ? I don’t know.Scientists say Amygdala of brain is responsible for this kind of emotion.

Anger is inborn and expressed,right from the day you are born.

Cambridge Dictionary says anger as

‘a strong feeling that makes you want to hurt someone or be unpleasant because of something unfair or unkind that has happened’.

Can you Control Anger ?

Yes…yes…

So say all the sages, but nobody has given you the exact reason why one becomes angry in the very first place,because prevention is better than cure !!

On lighter note…It is said one gets angry because of the stupidity of the other.Humanly it’s impossible to control anger.

You tube videos tell a lot about anger control mechanism.

There are many books on anger management.

Time immemorial,saints,gurus and wisdom teachers bombard you with steps to be taken.

People advise you to do some counting or breathing etc etc to bring down the anger.

Well wishers say because of your anger your health is deteriorating.

People try to avoid you because you get anger very fast.

You may be advised to undergo psycho therapeutic management.

Advises similar to …’think before you speak’ etc pour in plenty.

TEDx talk show case can help you understand anger in less than 18 minutes.It’s said less glucose to the brain results in more aggressiveness.

Are you aware of the term’ Hangry’ ? It’s a state of anger caused by lack of food.May evoke negative change in emotional state.Jokingly it’s said ‘Feed me or I’ll kill you”

Is getting anger abnormal ?

My friend, anger is part of human life.

All of us forget is that anger is completely healthy & normal.

It’s a human emotion and you just can’t avoid being angry.

It’s OK to be angry.

Benefits of anger

You may laugh for this.

Don’t get me wrong here.Anger has benefits too.

  • You get perfect opportunity to feel bad initially about your anger.
  • Followed by as to why you were angry.
  • And now you are in a position to reason it out.
  • Finally It eases your pent up pressure.
  • And you can avoid anger in future, in similar situations.
  • You evolve as a better person.
  • By evolving as a better person ,you are not giving an opportunity  to your body to produce harmful hormones.

How to control anger ?

No need to control your anger.

The only thing required at that moment is to bring down the intensity of your anger.

Any advice ?

My only solution is having a ‘Better communication’ & better reasoning.’

Are you longing to live long ?

Why you wish to live longer ?

Old people are just young people who have been living for a long time unknown

Why you wish to live so long ?

Why not ?

What is wrong in wishing, to live Longer ?

Who does not want to juice their life beyond the required commitments ?

God has given this one life to be enjoyed as long as it is possible.And God knows this.

If you ask anybody,each one comes out with an explanation,as to why they wish to live longer.

What do I think of living longer ?

My feeling is living longer,no doubt gives those wonderful memories.

Nothing like spending time with grand children and great grand children and other dear ones.

Love and romance can continue.

The only requirement is maintaining good health,which in turn can make the person enjoy the quality time with people closer to you. (If the near & dear have time to spare !)

The above quote is really scarring and sounding a real tragedy to see your younger and loved ones knocking the Heaven doors much earlier……….in front of your eyes.
