Sunday Poser # 133- Embracing new ways?

Sunday-Poser

This week Sadje’s question

“Do you prefer old ways or new technology in your day-to-day life?

By old ways I mean using a wristwatch, using a diary to keep appointments, or a calendar hanging on the wall to note events that you’d like to remember.”

Thank you Sadje for allowing us to express ourselves.

You made me recollect my olden days.

My thoughts (in brief)

I belong to the older generation.

Believe it or not, I still use the HMT watch. (the company stopped production a long time back)

Imagine our TV started only between 1972-1975.

In 1975 just 7 Indian cities had Television service.

I still use the traditional calendars. (surprisingly they are popular and still being marketed)

Luckily I am enjoying both the old ways of lifestyle and the benefits derived from new technology.

In my daily life, I prefer to merge traditional ways and contemporary technology.

Each, in my opinion, has advantages and drawbacks of its own.

Old ways

Old ways, such as reading a book or writing a letter, listening to the radio even posting the cover into a post-box, can be more relaxing and contemplative. They can also help me to connect with the past and with nature.

I miss my good old radio days, where every Wednesday, we used to glue to the radio for a programme known as ‘Binaca Geetmala’. (popular Hindis songs were played) and the room where the radio was placed, one can notice a lace-like antenna hanging from one wall to another wall! Oh, those days!

Disadvantage-they can also be more time-consuming and less efficient.

New ways

Internet and smartphone use are examples of new technology that is more practical and also effective.

The Internet helps me in expanding my knowledge.

Easy to keep in touch with family and friends.

Disadvantage-They are distracting and addictive. Chances are there that more violence is an attractive option for some to achieve fame negatively. Social media has taken relationships to another level. Many are suffering too!

Self-control

Finding a balance between traditional values and modern technology, in my opinion, is the finest way to live.

I want to take advantage of both while being conscious of any potential drawbacks.

Message

“Incorporate the wisdom of the past with the possibilities of the future, and you have a recipe for a balanced and fulfilling life.” Unknown

Thank you for your visit.

Take care, my friend.

Namaste 🙏🙏🙏

  1. I would say both. I like my watch that I can wear, and I still hang a calander but I also have one on my phone and tablet. I still make notes in a notebook etc. I also think technology today has made people lazy and spoiled. But thats just my thoughts.
