That’s an interesting place you’ve captured on the photo!
Sofa and couch are used interchangeably, but there used to be a distinction: couch was primarily used for sitting, but sofa had enough room for sleeping.

I had to go and look up the definitions! They are interesting: a couch is specifically a piece of furniture for sitting or reclining and a sofa is a long upholstered seat. Te definitions of sofa all include the idea of comfortable padding.
