Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Brekfast,-lunch-and-dinner

“Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper.”

This advice is attributed to Adele Davis, an American nutritionist.

Is this true?

Is this the best way to lose weight?

Is this theory supported scientifically?

Do nutritionists agree?

  • Some agree and many don’t agree. They are unable to conclude, for the reasons best known to them
  • There are also theories and some statements which claim that eating several small meals throughout the day is the best method to lose weight and also maintain body metabolism in perfect condition
  • Some said that skipping dinner altogether can help maintain body weight because of the long overnight break between meals
  • Some warned that skipping dinner might cause weight gain
  • Some researchers advised that weight loss is effective if you eat large calories at once that spread the amount during the day

What about intermittent fasting?

I understand that there are many types under this category.

This method does not stress on type or quantity of food and gives importance to when to eat.

In the 16/8 method, the eating period is restricted to 8 hours such as 1-9 pm. Then you fast for 16 hours in between.

Are you confused?

If you are, so I am.

The researches etc are confusing and many times they advise exactly the opposite.

What to do then?

Be kind to the food that you eat (don’t grudgingly restrict your favourite food), enjoy eating, yield to your temptations, and let your stomach be full as you enjoy every bite.

Did you ever try to control your weight?

How successful were you?

Be frank.

Are you a binge eater?

We do come across people who indulge in binge eating. Here a large amount of food is consumed very quickly, even when one is not hungry.

It’s said to be a medical disorder.

I don’t know the reason for this habit.

It is said to be due to genetic/dieting and body image issues and some psychological background issues can encourage this habit.

What about me?

I never think about my weight, but I am careful about what I eat. I never restrict the quantity.

I enjoy my food but don’t binge eat.

That’s it.

Do you know a funny thing about your food?

“The more you try to control your eating, the more out of control it will become” Unknown

  1. I am currently doing OMAD ie one-meal-a-day on Mondays and Thursdays. My single meal is dinner. So my “last meal” is Sunday dinner and Wednesday dinner.

The hardest part of the day is lunch time. I begin to crave for sustenance but after about an hour or two, the hunger disappears and I can get through the day. Coffee is a lifesaver as it kills appetite!

    1. I am glad that this particular OMAD has suited your body metabolism.
Agree with you on thoughts about craving when lunch time 🕰️ appears.
This is the time we lose our will power.
Glad that you are able to manage with coffee.
Thank you Mon Solo for stopping by and commenting.
      Namaste.

  2. I believe that you should have hearty breakfast, good lunch and small dinner. You should also listen to your body and act accordingly, those giving advice are not in your shoes to begin with. If you work physically you will need more calories to keep you on your feet , if you are the computer all day you probably will need less fuel to keep your body functional. Intermittent fasting is something I have not tried myself but heard good things about, it’s all very personal. What works for me doesn’t have to work for you

  3. Thanks for the shout out for Thursday Trios. The lanterns work perfectly for this challenge. I found the discussion interesting. I’m currently on intermittent fasting 8/16. A hearty breakfast came about when farmers got up early and went to work immediately. After 4 hours of chores they would come in at 9:00 and have a substantial breakfast, then lunch four hours later (often in the fields) and then an early supper at 5:00. Early to bed so there was no late evening snacking and up again at 5:00. Essentially they ate in an 8 hour window and fasted for 16. My issue has always been snacking in the evenings. I thought I would miss breakfast but I can work for several hours when I first get up and sometimes have to remind myself to eat at 11:00.
