Do you hand wash your laundry with air drying or do you take the help of a washing machine & dryer?
My friend, hand washing and air drying (washing lines) are the preferred method.
Why?
- Your delicate (silk, lace and velvets) garments are preserved.
- You save water. (Washing machines use 50 litres of water per wash). Gentle cycles use more water. The gentle cycle also releases harmful plastic microparticles, harmful to aquatic life.
- Dry cleaning uses perchloroethylene, neurotoxic and developed countries are trying to phase out the dry-cleaning solvent.
- The washing of undergarments needs special mention. It is advised to handwash the undergarments. Dirty underwear contains poop and the dangerous germs can remain in the washing machine and get transferred to the next set of clothes somebody adds later.
- And you save the environment by avoiding the usage of electricity and toxic solvents.
Take-home message
“If we all used clotheslines, we could save 30 million tons of coal a year, or shut down 15 nuclear power plants.
And you don’t have to wait to start. Yours could be up by this afternoon.
To be specific, buy 50 feet of clothesline and $3 bags of clothespins and become a solar energy pioneer.”

Thank you for your visit.
Take care, my friend.

I used to hand wash just about anything, now the times have changed … for better or for worse

Agree.
Times have changed.
And only time will tell what is in store.
Thank you, my friend

I dont understand why a gentle programme releases micro-particles? Wouldn’t it be a risk that they all do?

Thank you, Brenda.
Scientists say so after research.

Both methods are in use at my home. When laundry items ate in bulk, washing machine is preferred. For the light load, hand washing is okay.

Agree.
Things are convenient if there is heavy load.
