“Why can’t we have those curves and arches that express feeling in design?
What is wrong with them?
Why has everything got to be vertical, straight, unbending, only at right angles – and functional?”
Prince Charles
This quote is attributed to Prince Charles (King Charles III)
I’m trying to figure out what the quote’s reference to curves and arches means. (? feelings/emotions)
Curves, according to some, are associated with feminine form.
Some claim that our brain is hardwired to prefer curvy architecture! (It’s not just a male trait; both men and women appreciate curves.)
Does liking arches or curves indicate an artistic or sexy mind?
Readers, please enlighten me.
Thank you in advance.
Sexy curve of different kind
We all possess sexy curve which we rarely appreciate.
Do you wish to know what it is?
“The sexiest curve on your body is your smile.
The best accessories are your eyes” Unknown
Thank you for your visit.
Take care, my friend.

What Chuck means is that modern Western architecture tends to be boxy, uninspired and boring. We’re starting to see a shift away from that, but it’s still a reality.

Curves can be architectural or physical, you don’t have to be a man to appreciate those. Every one of us is an artist if you look deep enough, so we do enjoy good style and smart design.

So beautifully you expressed about everyone of us being an artist by default.
Thank you so much, my friend.

I agree with the sentiment expressed in Prince Charles’ quote. Curves and arches can add a sense of movement and fluidity to architecture and design that can be quite pleasing to the eye.

Thanks a ton for explaining.
Yes. Curves and arches bring that emotion which are pleasing.

I agree with the above; I prefer curves rather than straight lines, boxes etc – it can be rigid and inflexible. I don’t think its a gender thing.

Exactly. It’s about giving a structure a more organic, visually appealing look.

I take it that His Majesty does not appreciate Bauhaus architecture. I wonder whether he likes Gothic and Romanesque architecture that London is famous for.
Fantastic photo.
