“Always put yourself in other people’s shoes” is A well-known Idiom.
Joke part of the idiom
“Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that who cares?… He is a mile away and you’ve got his shoes”
Billy Connolly
Remember that the whole world revolves around the ‘mindset’ and every thought that crosses your mind is influenced by the ‘PERCEPTION’ which is already settled in your mind that can influence the outcome.
The real part of the Idiom
Is this idea of putting yourself in someone else’s shoes …does it work all the time?
For this idiom to work, one must have a thorough knowledge of three things.
- Empathy
- Sympathy
- Compassion
Unless one possesses these three qualities, the idiom does not serve the purpose.
Sometimes you may get a shock too if you are a good Samaritan!
The help, what you think you are lending to the needy, need not necessarily be appreciated by the needy since the Needy’s perception of your help may be different and sometimes just the opposite.
