What do you see in the image above?

If you notice the back wheel of this pushcart with a blue rim, you can make out that its owner has put a chain around the wheel along with a lock towards protection against theft.

If you do a closer inspection, you observe that it’s not locked properly!

I don’t know what purpose the lock and chain serve in this example.

Unknowingly the owner of this vehicle is happy, thinking that his cart is safe!

You are no different from the above pushcart owner!

Why?

This Chain and open lock reminded me of what you all do on the internet.

You think you are safe because you are unknown entity in the internet world and nobody is really interested to know what you are up to. Is it not so?

You may hide the IP address etc but still you are not safe!

Whether you like it or not, the truth is everyone is exposed to fraud by the fraudsters!

Some examples include Phishing and spoofing, Malware, data breach, Ransomware even your business email compromise.

You are all aware of the emails you received from the famous Nigerian Prince or Princess!

My friend, be vigilant 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.

Follow Simple rules like

  • not sending money to an unknown person,
  • not sharing your personal or financial details with strangers,
  • not clicking on hyperlinks or opening attachments from unknown sources,
  • not checking the if the URL has a padlock 🔒 symbol, and
  • don’t forget to use two-step verification for your credit cards or your email address.
  • Not getting tempted to download apps from google play etc.

The tragedy is you can’t be careful all the time and chances are that your Iron Safe is breached when you are in a hurry and commit mistakes.

But some precautionary steps can be taken.

What about the blogosphere?

Are you careful enough?

In the blogosphere, one can easily make out what type of a person you are, and your tastes, your fancies etc, from the various discussions you do with your readers or followers.

Knowingly or unknowingly….somewhere you blabber the truth about yourself however much you try to safeguard the same.

Many think that they are intelligent by being careful, but sadly that is not the case…because we have our human tendency to our own break downs when the situation is ripe and you may open up unknowingly!

      1. Hello Philo, good question. I believe it is a delicate balance between being real and authentic to allow others to warm to us and enjoy our work. However, I do believe we can reveal too much by getting entangled with situations on WordPress or by perhaps over-sharing which dissipates the mystery. I believe it is upto the individual however it is a delicate tip rope to walk. Your thoughts my friend?

        1. I fully agree with you on this my friend.
True- social media is a doble edged weapon and it is totally upto the individual how much one willing to share. Misuse of the trust making one to tread cautiously.
That is the problem my friend.
In general what is your experience?
As far as me…so far so good except 2 or 3 rotten fish…
It’s all part of life I guess.
          Thanks again

          1. Yes, I resonate very much. I’ve experienced much beauty, friendship and have learnt a lot through cyberspace however have had some instances of stealing identity, unkind comments etc. However, if we simply deal with it, delete it and focus on the good.. They will get bored. Blessed. 🙏🏻♥️

  1. My daughter and son in law are both diligent in making sure their family stays safe…so it seemed. One afternoon my grandson was playing a game and talking with someone that sounded like a friend. My daughter realized he should have been talking with anyone.

Lesson learned. Kids are our most dangerous target. Nice info.
