According to Kammie of Nut House Central Who hosts Kammie’s Odd ball challenge…
Today being a Holiday due to the Makar Sankranti festival (being celebrated all over India) I had time to stroll in a mall and in one of the shops I saw candies stocked neatly.
Who does not like candy?
From children to adults everybody enjoys the taste.
Childhood memories naturally include visiting candy stores and picking the candies and sometimes fighting with siblings for a particular colour of candy or one variety of candy. (Caramel, lollypop, Jelly candies, KitKat, Chewing gums, Cotton candy and liquorice)
“One of the secrets of a happy life is continuous small treats” Iris Murdoch
Don’t you agree?
I took a click of these candies.
What caught my attention was the statement on the wrapper telling me that the candies are
- Gluten-free
- No titanium Dioxide
- No preservatives added
Agreed and we hope that the manufacturer is true to what he/she means.
In general many express that these labels are often misleading.
PRESERVATIVES & ADDITIVES…SAME OR DIFFERENT?
They are different, my friend. While all preservatives are considered additives, all additives need not be preservatives.
Whether it is preservatives or additives…they are all chemicals and can cause multiple health problems without your even knowing!
Preservatives are seen in candy bars, processed meat products (sausages, canned meat), ice cream, chips, cereals, fruit juices, popcorn, baked food, soda, fruit juices, wine and sauce.
In other words, you name any packed item…it contains preservatives or additives.
I was under the impression that such items can’t have a long shelf life without ‘added preservatives’.
CAN PACKAGED FOOD ITEMS LAST WITHOUT PRESERVATIVES?
I am not an expert. So I am not sure.
A search on the internet informed me that long shelf life is possible provided the packing is done under M.A.P. (Modified Atmospheric Packaging).
I doubt whether this method is popular.
HOW TO BUY FOOD WITHOUT PRESERVATIVES IN THEM?
Check this link if you have time to read it.

Ok, I am going to have to find out what Titanium Dioxide even is, because it sounds like foods should not have that in it, lol

Homemade halwa is the best alternative I say 😀

Agree.
Nothing like Halwa, and Karachi is famous for Halwa and bakery. Is it not so?
In general, how to avoid the temptation for junk food.??

Interestingly, Karachi is famous for biryani. If you are in Karachi, there’s no escape from it 😁😁
The temptation for junk food is avoided by cooking it at home, which is good I say 🙂

Thank you for this information my friend.
In India we find many places named Karachi Bakery.
So I guessed it must be famous in your place.
