If you notice the above wall art, you can easily make out that the art is about the bugs.
My guess is there are 12 insects depicted in an artistic style.
I am not a biologist, but I guess these insects belong to the Arthropods (Segmented body and paired jointed appendages) family.
Why do insects interest us?
My friend, we share this world with insects along with so many other varieties of living creatures.
- There is symbiosis- having an advantage to both.
- Arthropods have evolved on earth even before humans.
- Do you know that arthropods account for over 80% of all known living animal species?
- No surprise they play such a major impact on human health.
- They are also important members of marine, freshwater, land and air eco system.
- They have been part of human cuisine and have been commercialised.
- Imagine the world without pollinators!
Are we happy with these arthropods sitting next to us?
Humans are extremely benefitted by their association with these creatures in most of the times (A few examples include Pollination, food, silk, aesthetics, products including cosmetics and in medicine)
However a word of caution.
Bad elements exist everywhere.
- Some of them are forest or agricultural pests.
- A few are venomous.
- Some of them cause deadly human diseases. (malaria, dengue, filariasis, Yellow fever)
- Ticks bite cause tick paralysis, allergy and asthma.
-
In the USA Lyme disease is the most common vector born disease. (transmitted to humans through the bite by a bacteria-infected mite)
Why we are finding insects of late in Modern or Contemporary Arts?
My friend, insects make good symbols because they always induce emotional reactions in us.
Artists marvel at their colours which are unique and pleasing to the eyes.
Nowadays, every artist is aware of environmental disasters occurring at regular intervals due to habitat destruction of insects by humans using pesticides.
I am glad awareness of environmental catastrophe is catching up with people.
“Destruction of our Earth – created by billions of years of the evolutionary process – with our stupidity of the last few centuries is a candidate to be one of the most tragicomic scenes in the history of this universe!”
Thank you for visiting my site and taking your time to read.

You might be the first one to post a mural of insects, Philo! It’s very colorful. Great design, too.
