Go Green, Eat green- Eat Chayote

“Vegetables contain more nutriment than an equal amount of dead flesh. This will sound a surprising and incredible statement to many people, because they have been brought up to believe that they cannot exist unless they defile themselves with flesh, and this delusion is so widely spread that it is difficult to awaken the average man from it” Charles Webster

Have you ever heard of ‘Chayote’?

The name sounds like Coyote!

It’s an edible plant belonging to the Gourd family.

It’s also known by several names like Mirliton, Choko, Christophene, chou chou or chow chow.

The fruit is pear-shaped with coarse wrinkles.

How popular the vegetable is?

Clearly, it’s not a favourite.

Benefits

  • Rich in nutrients
  • Rich in antioxidants
  • Rich in Vitamin C
  • Said to control blood sugar levels
  • Slows visible signs of ageing
  • Good for digestion

How the vegetable is used in cooking?

I have no idea about the way it’s used in other countries but here in India, uses as curry, the cut pieces are used in sambar. It’s also cooked with eggs, mutton or fish.

If this vegetable is available in your market just try once, you love it.

Thank you.

Namaste 🙏🙏🙏
