Fun facts about monkeys

  • Monkeys are found all over the world and approximately over 260 species are identified. The only places on the Earth they are not found are Australia and Antarctica.
  • The Pygmy Marmoset monkey weighs just a few ounces(120gms), while the male Mandrill monkey can weigh up to 80 pounds(35 Kgs).
  • Monkeys live in groups as troops or tribes.
  • Not all primates are monkeys. Apes have a larger brain and no tail while monkeys have a tail.
  • Barbary macaques are the only one species of a wild monkey in Europe.
  • Howler monkeys are the loudest.
  • For a Hindu-‘Hanuman’ is a is a Human-like Monkey God and divine companion of Lord Ram. Hanuman is one of the central characters in the Hindu Epic Ramayana.
