Lens Artists Challenge # 124: Now and Then

This post is part of Amy’s    LAPC # 124 Now and Then

This challenge reminded me of the ways, Corona Pandemic has changed our lives.

How is life now,  which is said to be ‘New Norm’ and how was life then…which we all took for granted.

Starting from April 2020 to October 2020, this pavement had a deserted look.

And two windows are open.

Storm sewer cover is missing.

“There’s just something obvious about emptiness, even when you try to convince yourself otherwise. ” Sarah Dessen

Now see the present status. You can notice an eatery pushcart and the seller busy with the customers.

And the windows are closed.

Storm sewer cover is replaced.

“Life is like walking along a crowded street–there always seem to be fewer obstacles to getting along on the opposite pavement–and yet, if one crosses over, matters are rarely mended”    Thomas Huxley

We notice the following obvious changes  (Then & Now)

1.wishing– No hugging or handshaking, people missing the warm hug.Just Namaste- Indian style.

2.Face Mask- since people started wearing face masks, one has forgotten how a smiling face looks!

3. Washing hands. Earlier none cared to wash hands Now this has become a habit and in some, this became an obsessive-compulsive disorder.

4.  Streets-  No more Eerie feeling! The streets and pavements showing some return back of life though not in full strength.

5.Mindfulness & Stress relief– Mental and emotional well being gained much more importance.

6.Physical distancing– People have become aware of the physical distance in public places.

Can we go back to normal?

I doubt.

The changes are here to stay.

What do you think that is going to happen?

Please share your thoughts.

Thank you.

I’m sure some people will go back to bad habits .. memory is very short. I like the hand sanitisers everywhere though as hands often feel grubby after shopping

Two photos show the changes of now and then, very well captured.
I agree, we will continue to adapt to these changes for a while. The vaccine is a good news.

That’s the real question Philo, isn’t it? I believe people will go back to hand-shaking, hugging and kissing as soon as possible as physical touch is such an important part of our lives. Masks will linger for a while but extensive hand-washing and physical distancing will fade fairly quickly. Some of the larger impact may be on things like commercial real estate (many will continue to work remotely more often), Business travel (again people have learned that remote visits can be very effective and much lest costly), retail ( people have learned how easy it is to shop online), etc. We are fortunate to have had technology to support us through pandemic times. It will be interesting to see how much it continues to be used when we return to more normal times.

      Thank you Tina Schell.

Agree, the so called new norms are slowly forgotten as these things happen routinely and people’s memory is short.
Life will complete the circle and we are back to routine.

Yes what you said is a possibility as far as people working online and getting things done, why should physical presence is required?

As far as bussiness in every walks of life is concerned,I guess, new inventions and attractions and special discounts etc will rule the day in order to attract customers…a bussiness survival tactic.
Hopefully the customer is the beneficiary .

We are all leading a strange and confused life.I wonder what our forefathers would have done in these circumstances!

I truly think we will be back to normal in a year. Immunity will start in 4-6 months then we very social animals will come out of our shells and the handshakes and hugs will begin. Life will go on and 2020 will become an “I Survived…” T-shirt

    Keep laughing

      Thank you my friend.
      Agree with you.
By Next December ( 2021 ) things are likely to be forgotten and many say it was a’ bad dream’.
Ha ha …T shirts with ‘ I survived Logo’ a wonderful idea.
You should expect royalty for this brilliant idea!
