The Face of Surprise 

The surprise is a feeling of astonishment.

Surprises have got a funny way of expression in the human face. It can be out of positive or negative emotions.

We all have witnessed how the winner of Ms.Universe or Ms. World express their standard surprise on winning the award, by keeping the hands near the cheeks or over their mouth.

Have you ever wondered what exactly happens to your face of when you are surprised ?

Check the face of the two boys in the above photo after you read the desciption below.

  • Eyebrows are raised so they become curved and high. 
  • Horizontal wrinkles across the forehead. 
  • Open eyelids: the upper lid is raised and the lower lid is drawn down, often exposing the white sclera above and below the iris. 
  • Pupil dilation mydriasis or pupil constriction miosis.
  • Dropped jaw so that the lips and teeth are parted, with no tension around the mouth

Of course, As I described earlier,the non-facial acts include… hands are kept near the cheeks or over the mouth.

 

Surprise of a different kind

In the Photograph above, I was surprised as to how this person can read the newspaper since he is facing the Sun directly, the temperature being 37 ° c (almost 100 ° F), and he is not covering his face with paper, and busy reading the news.

            You’re better off not knowing how to read that jibberish anyway. It’ll lower your IQ doing so, LOL.
