Cambridge Dictionary defines deadline as ‘a time’ or ‘day’ by which something must be done.

Deadlines are good for a reason. Why?

Deadline motivates the individual to complete the task, thus one is not under the mercy of ‘procrastination’

“Deadlines refine the mind. They remove variables like, exotic materials and processes, that take too long. The closer the deadline, the more likely you’ll start thinking way outside the box”.  Adam Savage

‘Real life’ deadline vs ‘blogosphere’ deadlines

While real life deadlines are almost life challenging and brain sharpening tool which instill confidence and discipline, it need not be so in the case of Blogosphere World.

Why I am talking suddenly about deadlines?

This small discussion is about deadlines in blogosphere pertaining to photography.

‘Photographic challenges are really demanding at the same time inspiring.

Organizers of ‘Photographic challenges’ in the WordPress are professionals and the topics they select are tough, brilliant and really keep the brains of amateurs busy and sharp.

Many times, amateurs scramble for ideas to take part in the challenges.

Photograph challenges posted, sometimes have deadlines.

Mostly due to paucity of time, many miss the opportunity to take part in the challenges.

Instead, is it not convenient to keep the challenge open, so that participation is made easier and participants can join at their own convenient time.

Most of the bloggers are not professional photographers and I guess majority are amateur photographers with great interest and photography as a hobby during free time.

By setting a deadline for the ‘photography challenge’, amateurs may not be able to join on time and are disappointed.

Which one is important in Life Mission or deadline?

“In Short you can’t let the deadline define the mission; the mission has to define the deadline”   Richard Holbrooke

What is your opinion?

May be the organizers of ‘photo challenges’ can advise.

“At times.it is better to “just do it” than to “do it right”. One reason new year resolution doesn’t work is because we expect too much from ourselves. Rush, meet your deadlines, you can always continue from where you stopped, next year” Asuni LadyZeal

Do I support deadlines ?

Yes.I do for the reasons I mentioned earlier. ( Adam Savage quote )

Those of you who have missed the deadlines….

Relax. Don’t break your head.

Some of the organizers have come out with charts of challenges one month in advance, so that you have plenty of time to plan. (31 challenges for the month announced a month earlier) and some have already published future topics ( in advance ) so that you have enough time.

Here is the advice

I am talking in general. Not specific to photography.

Don’t take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive.   Elbert Hubbard

Take home message

  1. The deadline motivates the individual.
  2. The deadlines in a way make the person think fast, innovate fast and get satisfaction at the end.
  3. The whole thing depends on how serious situation is and how serious the person is to finish the job before the deadline.
  4. You are the deciding authority.

“The only deadline is the one I give myself” Mark Thomas

  1. I completely agree with your take home message! And this is one of my favorite quotes from the book Percy Jackson – “Deadlines just aren’t real to me until I’m staring one in the face.”😅
