“Many believe that they will get others’ respect by giving respect.
The truth is that people don’t respect people, people respect strength and people respect power. In giving respect, if you come across as weak, then you don’t get anyone’s respect”. unknown
Is this true ?
Thank you.
Respect is a two way process. One can’t go on respecting someone when the other person is just treating you like you don’t exist and does and tell things that demean you. Power and strength does make people think of themselves as superior but if you’re going to treat people like trash though you possess these two things my belief is that people will start losing their respect for you. Respect should be earned and no amount of power and money can buy that for you.

True Savitha what you said.Just because one is giving respect to the other…other need not think that this person is weak. It’s only arrogance and sure to lose respect soon.
Thank you

Respect is completely give and take or what you give you get process. If someone keeps ignoring my respect and feelings, then he/she doesn’t deserve mine too.

I’d agree with RaviSingh. The original quote author didn’t seem to understand the difference between true respect and fear masquerading as respect. Or at least they were not able to verbally differentiate very well between the two. Fear masquerading as respect will always come across as weak and (more importantly) insincere. Respect coming from a place of quiet self confidence will almost always be returned.
Outward displays of power or strength are for those who lack those traits internally.
