Cambridge dictionary defines sycophancy as

“Behaviour in which someone praises powerful or rich people in a way that is not sincere, usually in order to get some advantage from them”.

In other words sycophancy is to deceive the people and get deceived ( by both the parties concerned ).

It’s nothing but YESMANSHIP / BOOTLICKING / YESMEN / YESBOSS

” The beauty of this art is,the person on whom it is applied knows quite well but still he/she admires and relishes it ” Pavan Kaushik

We come across sycophants every where,be in the work place, political life, social life, even in personal life.

My thoughts on Sycophancy

1.Dale Carnegie book ‘How to win friends and influence people’ talks about important human trait ie.

A.Getting all the importance .

B.Craving for appreciation.

Sadly these things can be achieved only by FLATTERY.

2.Are sycophants intelligent people and wait for the right moment to get the favours done?

3.Sometimes I wonder whether it is an art to be mastered ?

4.Are not we all are all sycophants at one stage or other depending on the circumstances?

5.Even Gods are not spared. Is it not a fact that majority pray/praise God to get favours ?

The other extreme example, some people are treated as Gods !

6.sycophants have no self-respect or values and are experts in manipulating people at emotional level and gain benefits.

7.In sycophancy,the casuality is INTEGRITY.

8.But the problem is,everyone likes to be buttered up.It’s a human mentality.

9.Sycophancy said to combine hypocrisy, lying, manipulation and fraud.

10.Is sycophancy is a ‘survival tactic’?

These days of dog-eat- dog ,can straightforwardness help ?

Please enlighten me further.

Thank you.
