Can you answer this ? (Question series No-15 )

Why are elderly people often called “old people” but children are never

called “new people”?

Thank you.

      1. Well, ‘old’ is the more neutral of the two for some reason. Like we say ‘How old are you?’ rather than ‘How young are you?’. They call this markedness in linguistics. So ‘old’ is unmarked and ‘young’ is marked. But why is it so? i don’t know.
